My parents just happened to be retiring at the beginning of all this. I had always planned to help them move, but I didn't know what would happen over the course of the week, so I decided to stay with them for a month. Southern Missouri is full of beautiful landscapes and exciting new critters! I was away from people and didn't feel like I had to hold my breath as I walked down my apartment complex hallway. I felt calm and joy in ways I hadn't felt for years. Once I got back to Madison, everything was noisy and I was back to holding my breath. My company announced that everyone was free to work from home for the rest of the year and seemed to be open to working remote indefinitely. My decision was made. I didn't renew my $1500/month apartment and now I'll be moving to southern Missouri in a couple weeks, with an apartment with a dedicated office space (spare bedroom) at half what I pay now. I'd never believe you if you told me I'd be doing this 8 months ago.
